Chapter History

The history of Tri Delta in the Bangor Region goes back to 1917 with the establishment of Alpha Kappa chapter at the University of Maine, as well as the chartering of the Bangor Region alumnae chapter in 1935.  Both chapters took a hiatus in the early 2000s but came back strong in 2016 with the recolonization of Alpha Kappa chapter and re-opening of the Bangor Region alumnae chapter.  The two groups continue a close relationship today with alumnae members present at chapter meetings, events, and celebrations.

Programming within the Bangor Region alumnae chapter is varied.  The organization supports the collegiate chapter as needed and holds Circle Degree for graduating seniors from UMaine.  A sample of this year’s schedule of events includes Dinners Out in Downtown Bangor, UMaine Homecoming, Wine Tasting, Alpha Kappa Initiation, Founder’s Day Social Media Tea, Holiday Ornament Swap, Paint and Sip Night, Circle Degree, and Theater Night.  We start our year with margaritas at Pepino’s in late August/early September and set our calendar according to the interest of our membership.

Volunteer opportunities are plentiful in the Bangor Region alumnae chapter.  Since many of our members are part of the local alumnae advising committee at the University of Maine, we support the collegiate chapter’s alumna advisor, Denise Blain, by attending various meetings and training events at Alpha Kappa.  Also, we provide financial support to the collegiate chapter through scholarships and sponsorships of events.  In addition, many of our members volunteer on several local boards and committees.  If you are interested in volunteering, let us know, and we will put you in contact with one of our members.

The mission of the Bangor Region alumnae chapter is to support both our collegiate and alumnae sisters.  The bonds that we created throughout our collegiate and alumnae membership are strong.  It is through these friendships that we strive to uphold the ideals of Tri Delta and welcome alumnae far and near.
